audio 10 phone kit

audio 10 phone kit
My 01 clk200 has an audio 10 radio/cass. It stays on with the engine off, and doesn't light up.
I found an audio lead from audioleads for a phone kit installed between the merc iso plugs and the radio.
I removed the lead hoping this would cure the problem.
No luck, I believe the electronics do not use a switched 12v cable to power up the radio, but it's sensed from a common bus/network?
Any Ideas any one. Happy new year and good motoring.

RE: audio 10 phone kit
Well I have looked at this a little further, and I am puzzled by what I found.
The ISO connectors on the car especially the socket "A" has very few pins.
Missing crucially are , a switched +12v to switch the radio on with the engine (pin 7), and an illumination +12v which comes on with the car lights to illuminate the radio (pin 6).
I did spot a blue wire, the wake up?
Now the audio 10 radio/cass installed in the car needs these 2 connections.
It was just a matter of jumping a wire from pin 4 (+12v) to pin 6.
this allows the radio to be illuminated, albeit all the time it is switched on.
I will have to find an ignition switched circuit to fix the other part.
This however points to the fact the audio 10 in my car is not the factory installed radio, I don't think Mercedes would supply a car with a dark radio.
I did find it surprising to find an 01 car with a cassette deck rather than cd player.
Does anyone know what the standard radio fitment was on an 2001 clk ?
Or anyone have any other explanation ?

RE: audio 10 phone kit
Hi,
Even if the radio is not the original the wires to the plug (original?) should all be there (or at least taped back) since as you would expect the "standard" radio installation calls for illumination and power not only when the ign is on but also with the key removed. This later power supply is normally switched to turn off after an hour or so.
So I'm confused by your statement:

So what coloured wires do you have coming out of the MB harness in the vicinity of the radio?

RE: audio 10 phone kit
wat u need to do is swap the main positive cable over with the memory positive cable , and u r trying to use a phone kit with this may be difficult as the audio 10 had a optical link , a little pug that slots in the back , that will make the factory fitted nokia phone kit work.
