Default ASR problem...93 600 help please

I have a 93 600sel, which is in all but pristine condition, fully serviced no cheating on the maintenance.
I drove home and put it in the garage two weeks ago after a drive with no problems, when I started it up this morning the ASR light was on, I drove it around the block but it was definitely in “Limp Mode” and the light stayed on so I parked it and took the Jag.
Any help with a DIY solution would be most appreciated.

Thanks

hello without testing it it is hard to say but ive seen wheel speed sensors on those models go bad frequently. The one I did consisted of the harness, brake pad wear sensors and the speed sensor all in one harness it was several hundred buck just for the harness. could maybe be just a brake switch?? good luck JIM

Hi,

Could be several things, some have already been suggested BUT...

My first thought is.......
ASR only causing a problem?

Speed sensorS (4) are common to several systems. e.g. ABS / EPS...
However the speedometer only uses one of these signals (and therefore may still be OK).

Have you just bought this car?

If so how about checking:

Tyre size.
Are they the correct size to spec? Do they have the same tread pattern on all tyres, are they all in a similar state of wear or are some "new" yet other(s) require replacement. etc.
Are the tyre pressures correct?
ASR is possibly detecting that one wheel(s) is rotating at an incorrect (implausible) speed in which case it will trigger a system warning.

ASR and other systems are designed to "drop out" if battery voltage is low. Sure your battery and charging circuit are OK?

Is ABS working correctly?

After reading a number of posts I checked the battery andthe chargewas very low. I recharged and the warning light is now off.

have your alternator checked. I dunno about asr lights or anything but if your alternator's charging less than 11 volts it might not be providing enough juice to run your vehicle's computer therefore throwing it into limp mode.

If it were a problem with tire size or his abs sensors then his abs light would be on and his abs just wouldn't work. His car would otherwise run fine.

Battery voltage should NEVER go below 12.5v.

If it does the battery is no good ALTHOUGH it may continue to work (unreliably) for either a short or long period. permanent chemical changes take place within battery (accumulator).

Charging circuit should be putting out about 14.5 v. at say 1500 rpm.

Best to check the computer error codes. I have found all of the posts are correct and one other problem isthe error codes indicate brake switch (although I replaced it) when in reality it was a loose connection at the third brake light bulb holder providing a similiar condition. Brake lamp switch under dash has to be adjusted or set perfectly right when installing/checking. I use www.alldata.com for the info. Record all the error codes, clear the codes, keep battery very fully charged, etc.
