Default Airmatic pump question

01 s430 Airmatic pump. I have my car at the shop because the car is in the full up position and will not come down to the normal positing (light on dash is off). The shop has informed methat it is a check valve in the pump that is stuck. They are telling me I have to replace the pump not just the valve???

My question is can the valve inside the pump be replaced or are they correct by telling me I need to spend $750 to replace pump?

Help

So I'm taking that as I am screwed and have to get the new pump? I think I'll hit it with a hammer and see what happens

Default RE: Airmatic pump question

Hi,

Sorry I've been away.

Best solution is new pump BUT if you are a keen DIY'er the pump is potentially repairable. Usual problem is "failure to gain pressure" (a different valve sticks open) but the pressure relief valve (switch) is also part of the pump. Can't actually remember if it just unscrews or whether it is part of the auxillary pump body....wheres that photo?
Not cost effective to get the garage to do it.
Basically the inside of the pump gets clogged up with carbon from the reciprocating pump piston rings. Although there are filters a good wash out works wonders.
