AC Compressor Clutch won't engage
Hi,
I have a 1990 300SL where I am pretty sure that the compressor clutch is not engaging 1/2 the time... It seems that if I turn on and off the entire vehicle sfter a few times [not just the climate control unit] it does engage. Any idea why that may be?
Is it a belt issue a relay/fuse issue or a time to get a new compressor issue? All help is greatly appreciated... it's 1000 degrees here in Ft. Lauderdale.
Thx
Doug

Once the system detects low freon it will turn off the compressor until the driver shuts off the engine and restarts. Once it reads low freon again, it again, will shut down the compressor clutch engagement.
The most likely cause is your A/C system being low on refrigerant/gas.
There is a switch attached to the drier (most likely place) that switches off the compressor when the gas pressure drops below a critical level.
This is to protect the compressor from damage when there is not enough/no gas in the system.
Any A/C service outlet would be able to check and refill the gas if necessary.
