Default 98 SL500 Rear View Mirror Removal??

I have a new complete rear view mirror assembly for my 1998 SL500. How do I replace the entire unit without breaking the mirror unit down as I do not want to get into the mirror unit itself (you know the plastic tabs are so fragile that once opened, the mirror gets permanently loose). Anyway, it looks like I need to remove the cover that is on the ceiling and then probably I can unplug the wiring, unscrew/unbolt the entire unit and replace it with the new one. How do I remove the ceiling cover to gain access, do I pry it open?
Help.

In my above post, I mentioned it being mounted to the ceiling, when it is actually mounted to the top of the windshield. Anyway, I need advise.

Default Mirror problems

Just to reopen this old thread.

New SL500 owner. trying to replace a broken Dome light switch the PO (previous owner) butchered the housing, breaking in in several places.
At the same time prolly damaged the mirror ,as it is now loose and wiggles.
After peering at this assembly is still befuddles me hoe to get it apart correctly, I can't even find a listing of the plastic cover part in any of the MB sales web sites.
I managed to install a new switch after I discovered the Dome light pop out revealing 2 screws by were the housing not broken already I still would not have the thing loose.

I know this is an old post but any help out here?

New guy 1st post.
