95 sl600 (r129) front suspension drops
I'm trying to fix a 95 SL 600. This vehicle will only fall in the front end (both the left and right side) when vehicle is raised on lift and then sent back down. The car will come up once engine is started. Sometimes the car will also fall when sitting for a few minutes or even sometimes overnight. The car has ADS I. I initially thought it could be the front leveling valve, so i switch it with the leveling valve in the rear (which has the same part number) and still only the front falls. I read some info on the wis to check for pressure leaks at front struts. I'm performing the internal shock leakage test as stated in the WIS eventhough i doubt both front shocks failed at the same time. I was hoping someone has experienced this problem before. Any help would be great. the nitorgen chambers in this car was also replaced a few months ago to fix a ride stiffness problem. As far as i know, the system only consists of a pump, lines, distribution valve, dampening valves, chambers, and shocks. I don't know what would cause only the front end to drop.b any help would be great, thanks.

Mine does the exact same thing. I don't know why, though. Since it works fine when it pops back up, I haven't pursued it. If you find a problem and solution, please be sure to share it with us here.

if the front suspension goes down after lifting the wheels... this can still be normal because the levelling valve is fully open while the vehicle is up, and therefore releasing the pressure, but....
when during parking the car for overnight and the suspension is down, then there is an internal leak on the valve.
if it falls down rapidly within 2 minutes after turning off the engine...then i think it is no longer safe to drive (IMO).

Mine handles great. The front end never lifts or dives when I drive it hard in corners or on straights. The car almost doesn't roll at all. It drives like a go-kart on rails. Normal driving is like driving on a cloud. It doesn't feel unsafe at all. The front end doesn't drop very often, but it does drop occasionally when it's parked. It never drops when the car is running.

it's okay because with the engine running, there is a constant supply of hydraulic pressure on the system.
such supply is more than enough to compensate for such a small loss.
so far i haven't heard any major issue regarding it and no complaints either.
good handling is because of the ADS. it got 4 stage from comfort, hard/soft, soft/hard, and hard.

Thanks, sleepwalker. I thought I was a dead man driving.
Is the "damper valve" and the "leveling valve" the same thing? If yes, didn't gsr355 rule that out by switching front and back leveling valves?

I'm glad this topic came up. After what you said, I stuck my face under my hood and poked around a little. I noticed a reservoir for suspension hydraulic fluid. I never noticed it before. It was low and took half a bottle of fluid to fill it to the MAX FILL line.

no.
amazingly, your car leveling system is almost exactly the same as the latest model cars (S-Class) and even maybach.
as i have mentioned in my older posts, i have replaced so many of them because of internal leak. in some cases, replacing the hydraulic oil already fix the problem.

RE: 95 sl600 (r129) front suspension drops
Hi !
I see this post is old, but I have a problem with my 93 SL600, and must kindlyask if anyone has some experience;
I had a leak in this part (mbz part #129 327 01 89 hydraulic distributor. located between the engine andthe right front wheel), this leak is now fixed. Because of the leak the hydraulic system were almost emty for oil, we also had to separate this part from the car some days....
SO, after installing again we can not seem to get oil into the front suspension. We have checked that the pump is working,we have tried to get out air from thedistributor, etc. etc.
Can someone please tell me the procedure for this, or where to find it ?? The Mercedes-dealer here in Norway says they can not help
Please respond to this post, or send me an e-mail to; narvik@hertz.no.
Best regards from Norway.
