89 560sl just dies
Hey guys. I have an 89 560sl. Just a couple of days ago while sitting in traffic the engine cuts out like I turned the key off. It won't restart right away so I pushed it off the road and after about 5 minutes it started and ran fine for the rest of the day. Then yesterday morning I was letting it warm up in my drive way and it died again. This time I could not get it restarted until I got home from work. When the engine dies I till have power to all of my accesseries. And the engine will crank over fine just won't start. I feel like the problem is in the ignition system. Is there any common problems with these cars that I should check before diving in ?
Thanks,
Mike

RE: 89 560sl just dies
I could not find any relays on the fire wall. I did find some above the fuse box on the passenger side lower a piller though. I have not had a lot of time to look at this problem but it seems to me that the problem is in the ignition. Maybe a coil over heating or a relay with high resistance. I have a Factory shop manual the is almost useless. Can anyone tell me where the Fuel injection relay and engine management relay is?
Thanks,
MIke

I found there was no spark so I replaced the coil. This seemed to work for 2 days. Now it is dead and there is no spark again. Is there an Ignitor in the distributor? Is there a crank posistion sensor? Where is it located?
thanks,
Mike
