'88 190E and Fuel Pump
I've got an '88 190E 2.3 experiencing Problems with I think the fuel pump or pump relay
1) Car will not start
2) Fuel Pump has been very whiney at times and made lots of noise.
3) Call would experience intermittent stalling at times -
4) Turning key now yield no sounds from back of car i.e. , no noisy fuel pump,no relay clicks
Diagnosis -
a) Fuel Pump Relay I saw a note that indicated that fuel pump relay could be bypassesd by shorting between PINS ? & ? by battery. I can;t remember what Pins control the fuel pump relay- Can someone give me a n answer on thiat one please.
b) Bad Fuel Pump - OK Guys I give, WTH is the Fuel Pump located on this car. Access to tank is easy but I can't spot WTH the Fuel Pump is located. In the tank, external under the car someplace. I need a clue as to look at it and see if it is getting power wherever it is located.
Thanks for your help.

RE: '88 190E and Fuel Pump
There is a $40 pump relay that can break.
There is a $500 pump control module near the battery that can break.
How I determine if the pump actually works:
Turn ignition off. remove key
disconnect electric wires from pump (isolates pump fron electrical system)
leave all hoses connected
No leaks or puddles or spills of fuel can be present to prevent fire.
connect pump directly to 12v battery using small aligator clips or wires, so that your circuit consists of one battery, two wires, and one pump. It will either run or NOT.
If it DOES run, you must have a relay or control problem.
