Just wanted to take some time out here to say hello to everyone here on the list. I have just acquired an 85 380SE with decent mileage 144K and good condition aside from the rear glass corner peeling. Here is my question, I have read up minimally regarding the 116 engine and had a question. the car currently has a knocking noise from the top end but it's not a rod knocking. From what I was told it may be a lifter albeit, the early models had rockers to which I found out and not lifters. I have just changed the oil and added Lucas oil stabilizers and the noise comes and goes but it annoys me as it is a bit on the loud side. Compression was checked on all cylinders and all read good across the board. I bought this from afriend that knows about Mercedes therefor I thought of it as a good buy.
