65 Mercedes VIN
Hey guys,
I have a 1965 Mercedes, but I don't know much more about it than that. My brother got it from a friend of mine, and now I have it from my brother. I'm starting the process of getting registration papers for it. It has "200 DIESEL" on the trunk and the body and chrome look really good. Interior is in rough shape though. More than likely I will be selling the car, but I'd like to know a bit about it before I do. If it is rare, which I doubt it is, I might just hang onto it.
I'm not sure If I found everything, but here is what I did find just in front of the rad:
Fohrgest - Nr. / Chassis No. MADE IN GERMANY / Model
110.110 - 10-300089 * 200 D *
To the right of that I found this:
240 491 503 515
304 G ---
110110 10 7
1 09217 38480
On the rad facing the engine I found this:
BEHR
055183H6
1105000803
I didn't see anything else though.
So ya, any help in deciphering what I have would be awesome. An estimate of it's current value would be nice bonus. As far as I know, it will run. If I get the registration all squared away, I might even insure it and drive it around a little. That little 4 cyl diesel should be good on fuel (right?).
Here is a few pictures ......

Its not a rare model from a production standpoint, they made 161,000. But it is rare in that there aren't many in the USA let alone many that have survived the ages. The 60's was still recent enough for WWII to give Americans a dislike for anything German. MB didn't start getting significant sales in the USA again until the 70's and 80's.
It looks to be in very reasonable condition, a great restoration candidate. As for value, I'd pay $1500 for it if there isn't much rust. It should see the lower 30's in MPG, the only real down side to being a daily driver is it will be one of the slowest cars on the road (29 seconds 0-60mph).
Be sure to change the injection pump oil, its a separate system from the engine's oil.

0 - 60 in 29 seconds .......... WOW! I thought I had read somewhere that they were low HP, but I didn't think that low. I'd have to treat it like a Nascar race car and and do rolling starts . What would the top speed on that bad boy be? As a positive, it would certainly cut down on the speeding tickets.
Where could I find something to decipher all those numbers I found? I'd like to know more about options and details if I could. I saw a thread with a VIN decipherer, but it said that wasn't available? Of all those numbers, I don't even know which one is the VIN. I don't really know what any of those sets of numbers are really, but if there is a program or a website I could input those numbers at, that would be sweet.
