Default 5 cyl. diesel VS. 6 cyl.

I'm looking to get a 79-84ish diesel mercedes as a daily driver (the '68 Plymouth GTX is killing me on gas). I've heard that the 5 cyl. diesel is a much better engine opposed to the 6 cylinder. Is this true? Is the 6 cylinder prone to engine trouble?

Any mercedes deisel is going to last. They definately do a fine job with them.

Finding people to work on them besides dealers or specialty shops can get tough though.
