Hey SPIKE1000. iIHAVE A '90 300SEL, Lapis Blue Metallic, and the same questions about paint. We might have the same climate, I'm in Houston. I'd like you to forward what you learn on this subject.

Thanks, Peter...

Let me ask you a few questions to close in on an answer.

Has the car been repainted? Is the car the original color?
Is the paint merely faded?
Are there swirl marks/scratches in the finish?
Are there any rust spots or chipping paint?
Do you have artritis?

to bluesilver

my car is in the original color it has one rust spot near the front bumper. the color is faded only on the engine hood.
ther are some scratch's on the side. my question is:

do i have to take off all the color from the car?
do i have to remove the windows and replace the rubbers?
is ther any base color that i need to paint before the original color?

i asked the mercedes dealership and they want over 2500$ to paint the car.

thanks Itzik.

$2500, hm. A guy wanted $6,000 to repaint my BMW to original color, saying the color has been discontinued and very hard to get or something.

But if the paint is only faded on the hood, you shouldn't have to really repaint the whole car. Sounds like a good detailing should take care of most of your problem. And the fading might just be loss of the clear coat, I believe.
