I have a 1985 300d with a transmission that has a bearing going out. Can I replace the transmission in this car with one froma 1981 300d? As I look online I see things that say 1981-84 are compatible or sometimes 82-85 but nothing that indicates a 1981 transmission wil work in this car. I have acces to a used 1981 transmission and that is currently my only alternative to rebuilding mine. Can someone help?

 

Thank you. That is not the answer I wanted to hear but is what I was expecting. Now I guess I have to rebuild mine or find an 85 transmission.
