Default 300D Mystery Part

On the right fender insides the engine compartment I have a box shaped device that looks like it has some springs in it. I was thinking voltage regulator or some sort of resistor device. My Alternator has a built in voltage regulator. Another thing with this car is that it drains the battery down if I leave it set for just a few days. Any ideas?
Thanks
Gary

Thanks, that makes sense. I have checked the static current with an amp clamp digital meter and get around 200 mA. I checked my SD and got a bit more than that and that car can go for a long time without running the battery down. I thinking perhaps something like a slow leak in the vacuum system causing the pump to come on but haven't caught it happening.
The radio doesn't work so I'm going to look in that area for something intermittent. This car though an 84 only has about 62k miles on it.
Thanks again.

Yep, except the battery is brand new. The old one wasn't the right one and I decided that it might be bad. The new one is for that car , an Interstate Die Hard. I've had good luck in the past with those. I'm going to dig around with the radio as it doesn't work and have a close look at the vacuum pump, a slow leak might have it running at night when I don't know it. Thats about all I can think of.
Thanks again

Its starting to sound more like your battery is just sulfated and can't hold a charge anymore. A high voltage trickle charge might recover it, but usually its toast.

Ok, I was thinking that it had to maintain some vacuum. So, its just more of a mystery now.. Only thing I can think of right of is to look at the radio wiring etc. as it does not work nor the automatic antennae. I think this was a problem before I owned the car as I see various things disconnected like the trunk light , the tach. sender is gone.. etc. Starts great as long as I start it every day. If I don't drive it this winter then I think I'll pull the battery.
Thanks

Just wondering, does a car as old as the 84 300d have an anti theft code by chance for the radio? I have had the battery out when I replaced it and the previous owner had one freeze up and replaced it with a non standard small one. Doesn't seem like the radio comes on at all so not sure how I'd enter a code even if I had one.
