Hello Everyone! My dad recently gave me his 1979 240D. The body is in good shape, no rust, but it hasn't been started in 7yrs! This will be my first attempt at restoring anything, I'm pretty good with cars so I think it'll be my hobby for the next year or so... wanted to know: 1. Where to start 2. Should I just go through replacing everything or should i start somewhere in particular... any help would be great!

 

If the engine will crank, that is, not stuck, change the fuel filter, drain the old diesel fuel out of the tank, prime the fuel system,install a new battery and if the glow plugs are functioning, she should roar to life. After the engine has ran for 15minutes or so, change the oil and filter. Be sure and check for any leaks. Good luck,
