Default 2001 ML 320 - Brake Lights Stay On and cruise control doesn't work

The cruise control doesn't work and the brake lights stay illuminated while the brakes are not being used. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Faulty/ loose Brake light switchis the usual cause.

Check you brake light swich.
Either it is jammed in the on position or needs tobe moved a little away from the brake pedals so that it is activated only when you depress the pedals.
The cruise control is deactivated when the brakes are applied.
Since the brake switch is on, it automatically deactivates the cruise control.
SHAN.

If your problem isn't solved, I have had other cars where the same switch controls both the cruise and the brake light. It is just above the brake pedal arm and is mounted to the steering column or in that area. It is like a two stage switch. Touch the pedal a little and the cruise goes off, a little more and the brake light goes on. The bracket needs to be slid a little further off the brake pedalarm so it only activates when you are applying the brake. That should solve both problems.
