1999 C280 Sport "Check Engine Light"
My 1999 C280 Sport has had the check engine light on since 40K miles...I now have 152K. I have an OEM reader and I know it is a B.S. emission control issue(my service advisor even told me it is not worth fixing $-wise). My OEM reader can reset the check engine light, but it comes back on after a while. What I am looking for is information on how to destroy the check engine lightbulb, disconnect the said lightbulb or cut the wires to said lightbulb. I have had my car since Dec. '98 and this is the only issue I have really ever had. A friend told me of this site, and I am hopeful there will be some good advice. Thanks!!!

RE: 1999 C280 Sport "Check Engine Light"
First off, if you have a code reader why don't you just post the code and we'll try to answer what the problem is.
You could be robbing yourself of some performance depending upon what problem you may have. The codes are there to help alert you to problems which need looked at.
Also, I'm not sure where you're located, but if your state/country begins (or has) emissions testing, they may look for that "check engine" light when you turn the key to the "on position" and if not present can fail you based on that.
You may want to sell the car someday.... on that basis alone, I'd fix it instead of masking/hiding it.
Besides, I enjoy the challenge of finding the problem and fixing it. Call it "piece of mind"
Just my .02 cents worth
