Default 1991 300E flex discs

After reading the many posts, and seeing pictures, about flex disc failure I will be getting rid of this worry.

It seems the rear disc is the easier of the two. On the front disc I see the need to remove the trans mount and possibly the exhaust system. What I do not see posted here is if the bottom of the tunnel needs to be removed. Also does the driveshaft have enough front/rear movement to get the disc off the center pin?

If you have done this job and can shed light on this one I would greatly appreciate your input!

Thanks much!

nothing you mentioned needs to be removed, just take out the bolts in the flex disc, and pry back the drive shaft. it may be a little snug, but you will be able to snake it out

I would like to bump this up......when checking the job out under the car it does not appear possible to get the front disc out with the trans mount in place.

Anyone out there who has changed the front disc please post your experience here.

I do all of my own work on every vehicle from large trucks down to the little 300E......Many years experience here...35+ (time flies when your having fun)

hey it is easier to remove the trans mount, this is easier access to the bolts on the flex disk. ive never tried to leave it in, its only just a few bolts. might want to support trans after removing mount.

So...rear wheels off the ground, trans supported, trans mount out,no need to remove anything else? Will the driveshaft slide on the splines enough to get the disc off the pin?

there are no splines you might have to bang off the drive shaft from the disk I usually use a pry bar to pry off shaft from disk. or hit the pry bar with a hammer to pry loose the flex disk. you will have no trouble very simple. put car in neutral so you can spin shaft to loosen bolts.

I am reffering to the splines at the center U-Joint.

We'll time to "git er dun"
