1987 560 SEL front right clanking sound
When I drive over a bump there is a clanking sound around the front right tire. We checked all around there to see if anything was loose but found not a thing. Took off the tire and everything looks good. I took it back to our tire shop and they checked the shocks which were just replaced. Look under the hood to see if anything was loose but all looks good. All this and we still have the same noise. Does anyone know what this could be.. Thanks, Janet

sure it's not a brake reaction rod joint worn? If so, repeated light tapping of the pedal when moving slowly will reproduce it. I would describe it as more of a clunk, though.
Possibly a broken stabilizer bar?

Could also be the control arm bushings. The coil spring will tend to hold it stable while you are looking at it etc... and everything will appear normal unless you look directly at it. But when you hit a bump, it's enough to jar it to make the noise you've described above.
hope this helps,
