Default 1986 300E (no dash lights)

I posted this message in the E-Class Forum but havent gotten a response yet. I just bought this car and would like to get the dash lights working. I know it's a electrical short most likely. But I need info on this circuit and a diagram would be great to have. Thanks in advance!

I have a 500 SEL and instrument light didn't work, tried everything I knew before playing with wiring, had an adjustment swithc next to headlight switch, and a couple ***** on the instrument cluster, one for the clock and one for the trip odometer, was playing with trip odometer and push the button and reset it and playing around to see if it would rotate to return to zero and WOW instrument light came on, it was turned too far down.

Hope yours is as easy to fix.

Default A good slap

My 86 190e had the same problem -- The odometer **** did not fix the problem so in another Web Page Tech Forum suggested slapping the top of the dash pad, and I tried it. The dash lights now work fine.

The tech forum article mentioned that it had to do with the way the instrument panel is grounded
