I have 190E 1991 2.6 with automatic transmission that will not shift out of 2nd to 3rd or 4th with rpm at 5000 to 6000 and goes only 40 mph. Transmission fulid level ok and looks clean. It goes into R ok and shifts out 1st to 2nd ok and that all. Some time it shifts to neutral and the rpm goes to 5000 to 7000rpm then i manually shift it into 3rd or 2nd. What do I need to check next? What is my problem? Took to dealer and took pan and filler off and they were suprized how clean the fuild was since it had not been changed for 25,000 miles. But they found some small pieces of metal on the filter. The spring assy was fine so they said in was in the 4th gear assy which could run 1,800 to 3,500 depending what they find. May just replacfe with an other transmission or just sell as is.

 

Same problem, 1993 190E 2.3 operates fine except wont shift from 2nd to 3rd. Changed the K1 spring assy without any change. Transmission oil during change out looked clean with no transmission component debris. Now looking at replacing the transmission Modulator Valve. Before changing out another potentially bad part would like to know if there is a realized solution out there first. Thanks, Mark

 

at least try the transmission shiflting module,,when it is malfuntioning it will do this also
