190 Autobox top gear fault
I have just got a 1986 Mercedes 190 2litre auto, 173,000 miles but comprehensive service records. The problem is, the autobox keeps jumping out of top gear. Does anyone have any experience of this and can help. I am an engineer by trade but have no experience of auto boxes
and can this be fixed or do i need specialist help..

RE: 190 Autobox top gear fault
you got high mileage already.
only by opening the transmission and by measuration (not menstruation) that you can find the problem.
please replace the GEAR SYNCHRONIZER of the affected gear. a deffective fork/mounting (loose), lock pins (on the end of those shift fork shaft, and shaft bearing can also cause this problem.
i believe you can do it by yourself, it's fun too. not really a difficult job.
i will assist you.
