123 series auto box into a 124??

Default 123 series auto box into a 124??
I have a spare auto box from the engine transplant i have just doneon my 124 .I have a friend with an identical 124 series Will this 123 series box i have fit . as his will only run in reverse .Apparantly if he can build road speed with a tow . The gearbox starts to work normally
