Default Experiences with bare metal repaint

Hello,
I have a 1972 220d that has a rust-free body but poor paint from a body repair. My thought is, since I am keeping my beloved Sofia, I want to have the paint taken down to bare metal, replace all window and door rubber, and then repaint with the same original color.

If anyone has done this, can you tell me about the finished results and any issues during the experience? Sofia, although a non collectable model, is in otherwise pristine condition and is very special to me as it was a gift from my late mother. Sofia is in the owner's section on the electronic Hemmings Motor News and is a lovely example of a cherished Mercedes Benz
