Euro Light wiring
I bought a pair of Bosch Euro headlights for my 79 450SLC, as the US versions leave a lot to be desired at night. The company I bought them from, whom is not an advertizer, will go un-named for the time being.
In their ad they were supposed to be plug and go, with detailed directions. When they arrived I opened each box and found good quality OEM Bosch Euro lights. But they are not by any means plug and go. I emailed the company and someone unnamed sent me some hand written diagram, one side of the paper had the US version connections and the left side the Euro connections. My son who is a computer engineer, built a 1 terrbyte computer for gaming and a web developer. He knows electonics. It took him an hour to figure out the drawings, we had to use wires and male and female plugs for jumpers from the US Lights and when we were down the parking lights still down work, the Euro's or the US OEM's directionals work, the right now and then, the low and high beam work as does the fogs when the low beam is on and the switch handle pulled to the first detent, but no front parking lights, fuses OK, bulbs OK. They worked the same way when we installed them out of the box. So all the jumpers, ruined US version light and a poor diagram made no difference in their operation.
He called the company and the person he talked to asked him to hold on. He put his hand over the phone or some other muffler and shouted out, does anyone know how to wire Euro headlights to a 79 450SLC. Silence, and then my son was told to go to our mechanic to fix them?????? This is a very large company, advertizes in The STAR the Mercedes Benz Club of America Magazine. You would and should think their would be some sort of support other then got to your mechanic and a hand drawn diagram on how someone there thinks they should be wired.
We worked on the right lamp for two hours in the heat, decided to quit for the day and I wrote them a, well, not too nice a email tonight.
Does anyone out there in car nut cyber space have any experience in wiring these Euro lamps?
Thanks as always in advance.
