Default Are the w123 and w126 alternator BRACKET the same?

1983 300td wagon:

I am having my belts put on my car by a local mechanic(general foreign/domestic car mechanic). My alternator bracket and bolt were broken and bent up come to find out. So i grabbed a used bracket from Socal Mercedesparts. Great condition bracket for being used. When the new/used bracket was installed the mechanic said the belt that his service manual said to use is to long....the bracket was broken while they were installing/tensioning belt. I am trying to find out if there is a possibility of a shorter or longer bracket that i may have recieved byu accident that i purchased that would have caused this OR is there no way to mess up because the bracket is the same size and shape on all the cars of that era for that engine? As of now they said they would charge us more to weld the bracket together.....Thats where red flags went up, that if indeed it is the correct bracket they need to replace that newly purchased bracket and not deflect the cost back to myself. Thanks in advance to any help given here

Cool thank you. Turns out they didnt break it. It was explained to me wrong. Got it straightened out. But still great info to know about the bracket being universal between the cars mentioned.
