I have a 1983 300 Diesel with a turbo. while driving the transmission does not shift into second gear. it will go in reverse, it will drive in low, under 20 miles per hour. It will drive when it shifts into second. When it shifts into second, the engine revs as if it is in neutral but the car does not move. any suggestions?

 

it has 190000 miles. when I say it does not move, what I mean is the transmission is not engaged, it does move as the car is rolling.

 

We the transmission is toast, thought about getting a used transmission, then opted for rebuilding the one in the car. Thanks

 

I apologize, I have been traveling: I meant "well the transmission is toast" bands were broken on the inside of the transmission! It had to be totally rebuilt.
