Tie Rods - quality? Febi? Lemforder? Karlyn/Uro?
My 82' 300TD needs both tie rod ends on the right side replaced, as well as the center link. The local repair shop gave me a price of $200 for the parts - on line prices look much better.
So, from an hours worth of research, TRW is the (only?) existing European manufacturer.? I've easily found the center link, but their tie rods are sold only as 'ends', not as units, and the 'right hand thread' / 'left hand thread' thing has me confuselated!
The brands of 'complete' tie rod units (available as left or right) are from brands such as Febi, Lemforder, and (really inexpensive) Karlyn/Uro.
My concern is, of course, if there ever was a part I would not want to break, it'd probably be a tie rod. I'd like top quality.
So, what's the best word here?
And do many of you do your own R&R on such parts?
Thanks,
G
