Has anybody used the stanadyne SVO fuel filter/water separator? I'm planning on using it to filter down to 5 microns. It will be preheated by a coil of coolant house wrapped around it and insulated. Also, I will use an inline filter upstream to catch any big particles.I'd just like to hear a couple good reviews before I blow the money on the filter unit, elements, and sediment bowl atachment. I've beenlooking at iton www.mercedessource.com

The stanadyne filter/water separator came with the elegant module I bought from mercedessource.com aka, greaseon.com . It has a clear pre filter before the stanadyne and a glow plug heater after the stanadyne, plus another inline filter before the IP. The circuit boss is also included in that module. It has four circuits and fuses. It gets it's energy directly from the battery but only after the ignition is switched on. I wired the glowplug heaters and return fuel lines to switches on the dash.
I also bought their fuel sump chamber module which consists of a glowplugheated fuel sump chamber, followed by an inline clear plastic filter, then a electric fuel booster pump. The fuel sump chamber is gravity fed, so I first removed the fuel tank strainer and replace the 5/16" fitting and fuel line with a 1/2" fitting line that enters the fuel sump chamber. That larger fuel line insures the fuel, even when thick with the cold, will gravity feed into the fuel sump chamber heater.
The merecedessource.com modules have worked flawlessly from day one.... Not one single problem! Not even when running 90% WVO at temps of around 24 degrees.... and my old 300D T is an outside auto!
IMHO,this single tank WVOmethod isvastly superior to my old 2 tank system from greasecar.com....
I just did an autopsy an a filter that I had run for 15K miles....Sweet...I could have easily run another 10K miles without any problem. I decided to swap out this filter just so I could see for myself what was happening inside of the filter. I'm running just the 2 micron Stanadyne filter which I got from Akimoto racing sports. The OEM filter is simply a water can (I've removed the guts from the OEM filter) which I've retained the diverter valve so the injection pump can function without any likelyhood of cavitation problems. I was very impressed with just how clean this filter was after 15K miles. Those of you that are considering to go with a better filter... No matter which brand or style you go with....its much better protection for your pump & injectors....BTW..I love that fuel heater in the Stanadyne FM-100 and filter/water separators...Sweeeet. Remember....to keep your pump & injectors happy. Feed them... clean, warm fuel.
