RE: sd diesel engines
ORIGINAL: ForcedInduction
Aluminium head, iron block. The 90-94 300SD/350SD also have the nick name "Rod Bender". They should be avoided at all costs.
If you must have a W126, the 86-87 300SDL is great. If you must have a W140, I suggest the S320.

I agree completely with ForcedInduction but have seen 90-91s with a rebuilt or new 3.0 engine. not sure if this is possible with the 140 might be worth looking into if u find a 140 that has bent its rod and needs and engine.

RE: sd diesel engines
The W140 is an AWESOME car very complex. I have a 1992 300SD that did bend the rods, #1 and 6. I rebuilt the engine over $10K CDN to do EVERY THING and upgrade the rods etc. You can find shops that will do an engine for about $7500-8000 for this engine.
I had a 1987 300SDL great car, a tank, it will go forever. not to complex. the W140 is a very complex car but the ultimate MBZ in my opinion.
