Default Renewing the oil pan gasket

Hi, I have a 1992 300D 2.5T w 152,000 miles. I have noticed oil is starting to seep a bit from around the oil pan gasket. Can you replace the gasket without performing the full oil pan removal procedure specified in 01-7500hz.

Many thanks for your input.

I you are speaking of the large Oil Pan would try tightening the bolts first.

On the Older Models there is not gasket on the large Main Pan. Some sort of sealant us used.
Most everyone pulls the Engine to get at the pan.
Also the on my model the Oil pan has the Lower Part of the Rear Main Oil Seal. I would say you need to have the Pan off to change the Rear Main Seal.
I will PM you a Free Manual Site and you can see what is involved.

Thanks Diesel9112

I had actually printed the document, “01-7500hz - Removing, installing oil pan” before I posted with the intent of torqueing the pan bolts first.

I have indeed done that , three or so were low and came up fine. Additionally I put the vehicle on my lift and gave it a detailed engine cleaning and then drove it 40 miles and put it back on the lift. All is dry except on one bolt at the back on the pan were bolts to the tranny / torque converter (TC). I have attached a photo front view looking back towards TC and one looking forward.

I will torque these bolts (M10 40nm) tonight and redo the exercise. Any thoughts?

Thanks Squire
