part off of lower control arm
I have an 85 300sd.Replacing a few suspension parts. What is the part name for the straight rod that runs from front lower control arm to the frame? There is a connector going to the frame with a cover with3 bolts.I didn't take it off because I want to replace that part when I do.I get a woodpecker noise from that location.Any help appreciated so I can order the correct part. Thanks, Joe

RE: part off of lower control arm
The metal bar is normally called the guide rod. The part with the three bolts is called the guide rod cover but it is really sort of a bushing.
There is no need to change the guide rod unless it is bent. They usually bend when you hit a curb. You will likely need your front end aligned when you change the guide rod cover as it is an adjusted part.
You can check this out at Performance Products.com and they also have some pretty good prices. You can also get a view of all the front end parts so you can be sure of what you are ordering. These views are very handy if you do not have the Mercedes "Catalog of illustrations" book that came with your car.
