oil pressure gauge

Default oil pressure gauge

my 1987 300D oil pressure gauge is jumping up and down ai idle.it goes up to 3 and stays steady when above idle..any input welcome.

Check your oil. A jumping gauge at idle usually indicates inconsistent feed to the gauge, or a faulty gauge. The most common cause is low oil.

pfft. Silly me. Had I looked at his year I would probably have figured out he's got an electrical one unlike the mechanical feed like on the older models.

oil is clean and full.cleaned connection at sensor behind/below oill fillter ...oil gauge still bounces between 2 and 3 at idle.any other ideas welcome.car runs great.190,000 milles.

I know that on my older diesel, bouncing between 2 and 3 at idle is perfectly normal. It's when it drops below 1 bar that you're in trouble.
