Default Oil leaking

I'm wondering if this a common problem in the older models. Mine is an 87 TD and everywhere I go there remain a small puddle. Does anyone else have this problem and if so was it a hassle to fix?

I sold my 83 model, mainly because I got tired of fixing small leaks. All those 19-years old seals are getting softness of the brick and don't do good job anymore.
Good luck.

My 87 300 D does not leak any oil! But I must confess that there is a new rear main seal installed 2 years ago. It was replaced voluntarily while the tranny was out. The old one didn't leak, but I replaced it anyway.

I would be willing to bet that if you went around to all the 10mm oil pan bolts, including the saddle pan, and if you didn't find a couple of them loose, I'd be surprised! Be careful not to over torque them, sorry I don't have the torque spec handy, but check the link here http://skinnerbox.steaky.org/Service/Library.html for the torque spec.

Oil pan and main seals are easy,
Those covers on fuel pump and the lines under the turbo are hard to get to.
How can you fix it, when you don't even see it?

Are you referring to the OM603, or OM617?

For the 87 300 TD, or D, I have found the OM603 is quite easy to access and tighten loose bolts, etc. The OM617 however is a different design all together. I have owned both OM617 and OM603 powered Benzs and have found the OM603 easiest for me to work on!

I don't know engine codes. I used to own 3-liter older 5-cylinder and 2.5 l on 93 model. Both had the same problem with heat and age deteriorating the rubber parts.

It is worthwhile to fix the easy leaks.
I have a little leak at the front pulley...this is staying until I have to remove the radiator for some reason.
If the leak isn't too severe, get a bottle of grease lightning from home depot. Pour entire contents onto the splash pan, wait 5 mins then rinse. Find where the oil falls onto pan. Clean the drip spot until dry then place one sanitary napkin on that spot (the sticker will hold it there). One of those pads holds quite a bit of oil. On my car, I have to replace the pads when I do oil changes.

Now there a manly reason to go buy them.
