Default Now, that's a thread starter...

I asked the same question awhile back, and I'll sum up the answers I got.
Two Schools of thought:

1. Use a good grade diesel oil, such as Rotella or Delvac.

2. Use a synthetic, ie Mobil's, etc.

Some think that because the synthetic has a lower level of zinc, it doesn't lubricate the top-end of older engines as well, since they were designed for newer, cleaner diesels. I don't know, as I'm not a chemist or engineer.

As an homage to Forcedinduction, to paraphrase, "Amsoil uses Mobil's synthetic oil as a base, and adds it own additive packages, so you might as well just use Mobil Synthetic." Hope I got that one right. Anyway, just use a good oil, and change it frequently - more frequently if it's not synthetic.

Default Oh,

And on a personal note, I use Rotella 15-14 right now, and probably will for the next couple oil changes, then will switch to synthetic.
