hey guys, been lurking for a whiles, and also on mbworld,
my name is tom and my family has a 87 300sdl.
currently has 140k miles and had overheated as i was driving in the past due to radiator failure, ran the heater as soon as i noticed somehting shut it down when i was pulled off to the side.
after fixing the radiator, drove the car again as a daily until i finally got something else to drive, car sat for a whiles but i would drove it when i can
when ever i drove it over time the coolant level drops and has a flucating coolant reading, where if i flash the highbeams, it would steady the reading. i would add water whenever it needs it.
currently, the car turns over fine, but idles kidna rough, thick white smoke. i would say headgasket needs to be changed, but dunno whatelse would be hosed.
debating about fixing the motor or what, dunno yet. advice please?

 

When's the last time your coolant thermostat was changed?

 

it was changed recently... replaced wit a oem spec thermostat.

 

Sounds like terrible, well I guess I have the same problem with my car especially when my GMC thermostat failed…I think we better replace it before it gets worst…
