Default ML270CDI boat towing, fuel additives

Hi Everyone,

I have just joined but have owned a 2004 ML270 CDI for a few years now, purchased second hand with 150,000kms. It has now done 200,000kms. Recently I have bought a small power boat weighing 1700kg including the trailer. I have 3 questions I would appreciate any advice on.

1. I have had no issues with the car (touch wood) but it has never towed anything before. I am getting a tow bar fitted this week and wondering whether I should get a service before I tow the boat. It is due for one in 10,000kms but don't want to risk anything going wrong. What are your thoughts?

2. Also I was speaking to a friend of mine who is a mechanical engineer and he was telling me about an additive to the fuel that can clean the injectors. Is this something recommended and if so any brands that can be offered and how often to do so/techniques to do so?

3. Lastly, does anyone know the most economical towing speed with this car?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Thanks, really appreciate the advice. Most speed limits in Australia are 100-110kph unless you go to the outback where they are now 130 kph (previously unlimited only 3 years ago!). I'll keep it around 100kph on the highways.
