Hi. I'm new here but have owned 6 M-B cars since 1971, and liked them all. I have a 1992 300D with the 2.5 turbo engine with 223K miles and plan to keep it forever. The trans started complaining (intermittent high engine RPM and very slow acceleration from stop, OK after that) and I would rather convert it to a manual box instead of getting a reman slushbox. Does anybody know if Canadian cars had a manual trans option? My Haynes is full of manual service info for the European cars. Also, does the computer set codes for trans problems, or just engine problems? I had the 30,000 mile service done a few months ago and can confirm it has correct fluid. My preference is to find a Canadian wrecking yard and buy all the bits and pieces to make the swap. Thanks.
