1983 SD Turbo Diesel
Having trouble turning the key in the ignition.. always seams to be lockes woth the steering wheel
sometimes takes up to 10 minutes to get it to unlock and turn the key.

 

Needs either the key switch or the locking assembly. Needs to be repaired before it locks forever. Once locked the labor triples to replace. Do a search on this forum for steering lock or ignition switch.

 

Sometimes mine locks with a pressure on the steering wheel. I can free it by turning the steering further and it releases the ignition starting the car normally. I cannot turn the ignition unless I do this first. Occurs when the car is parked with front wheels turned v. straight.

I have a similar problem but have found that as long as the steering wheel is NOT in the straight position (as if you were driving straight) then it does not happen. I have just gotten in the habit of turning the wheel 90 degrees before I turn the car off. I figure it will buy me a bit of time until I can fix the actual problem... which I plan on doing next month.
