I posted this question in the general tech forum and I am getting no answer so I will try it here...... I am wondering if the 300 engine is the same internally as the turbo model. These cars are both from 78 or 79. Can I just swap the turbo and manifold and intake ( as well as some other needed parts off of a donor 300 sd onto a 300cd n/a? Or is there a difference in the pistons, crank, ect. between the two motors???

I need to buy the cars soon if I am gonna......

My understanding is the turbo engines direct more oil to the pistons to cool them. I would think the injection pump would probably be set to a different flow rate? as well, but thats a guess.

 

Do not put a turbo on an n/a diesel. You will destroy the engine. They are different. They had a kit years ago, in the 70's for the american market for the benz diesel, destroyed a bunch of engines. If you want more power, put the largest diameter exhaust that will fit under it and open up your air intake a little.
