The reason your SDL does better on fuel is because of the trans ratio. In order to accomadate this, Mr.Benz put an extra cylinder on theSDL because of increased weight... thenet unintendedsideresult was better gas mileage. I have a freind that put a 5 cylinder in place ofanSDL 6 cylinder car...engine was rebuilt and balanced. He now gets 35 plus a gallon. back in the mid 80'sfuel economy was not a big issue as these cars were considered to be already doing well at 25 miles a gallon compared to the 9 miles a gallon american car of the day.

i guess my sig has confuse you from my topic well it my fault, but anyways i own a lot of SD and for some reason this perticular one is giving mebad MPG, for an example on my 1983 and1985 300SD i put inhalf tank of diesel andi drive a total of 23 miles (that work & errend's combined) and would have1/3 or moretank of diesel left, but on my 1984 300SD afterdriving 23 milesi wouldhave 1/4 or below tank of diesel left and also my 1984 300SD is way more powerful than my other SD's, do u think some one has adjusted my fuel pump, i think some did...
