Glow Plugs or Fuel Injectors
My last post earlier today explained the problem i am having. Maybe i should have asked this: How can i tell if the glow plugs ae giving me problems or if it is the injectors? I have not changed the injectors since i had the car. There is 190,00 plus miles on it. As always thanks.

RE: Glow Plugs or Fuel Injectors
Each glow plug can be tested with an ohms meter. Values between 0.3 to 0.9 can be expected if the GP is functional, if not, there will be a zero, or infinity, reading.
Glow plugs are used for starting purposes, but on later MB diesels also function to reduce emissions. Generally, after the engine is started, the GP relay disengages all glow plugs and have nothing to do with engine performance.
If your injectors are suspect, it may be time to have them rebuilt. Or you may try a diesel purge running straight Lubromoly. Also, try running a couple of tanks of biodiesel. This will clean injectors too.
If you have a benz prior to 85 (US) these diesel engines use mechanical valves and need to be adjusted periodically.
