Eradicating California Emissions Crud from 300CD
Has anyone gone to the effort to strip out the California emissions gear that chokes the life out of the 123 300 turbo diesels?
I've heard conflicting reports - some say the only way around is an engine swap.
Also, has anyone swapped the manual transmission for a standard? I've heard that this can be done - the 123 has the mountings ready. the only issue, I gather, customizing the linkage.
Basically, I'd like to improve the performance of this beast (both power & efficiency), and these are the two weak links.

Beautiful. I think I was getting scammed my the shop looking for a major $$$ score....
If you get a moment - can you reference a parts list for the federal changeover? Sounds like something I may be able to manage myself....though I am wary just because I don't know what the federal setup looks like.
Either way - THANKS!
And...when the auto finally needs a major overhaul, will opt for a manual instead.
