I have a 1979 Diesel 300CD (blew a rod thru the side wall), looking at other engines, ran across a 1984 wagon in better shape but the engine probably has a cracked head. My mechanic suggested taking the head out of the coupe and putting in the wagon.

Are these the same engines? From looking on line it appears so but I figured I would ask the experts.

 

Pretty sure the newer engine is a Turbo, but it still may be able to retrofit to your 1979. I am no expert, so you probably need additional advice here. BTW, how did your engine happen to throw a rod??? Is there a story behind that?
