where to find the engine # on a 91 350sdl ? ?

I think they are all located on the driver's side of the engine on a flat ridge just below where the head meets the engine block (sorta by the injector pump?). At least for the diesels that's where they are. I'm sure I saw this somewhere on the DieselGiant site in a pictoral.

 

looked my eyeballs out behind inj pump all over..........think that be somewhat easy to see.

trying to figure out if my sdl has had an engine replacement from previous owner. s.

wonder how long the benz dealers maintain service records?

any one out there with a mercedes mech friend who could run a VIN?
