Default Anyone have experience with the 6 cylinder turbodiesel in SDL produced in '86 & 87

I am researching for my next classic diesel benz and want to know the "buzz" on this engine.
It looks like it was only in the 1986–1987 300 SDL W126.125
Engine OM603.961 3.0L I6
Per wiki the car had a 0-60 of 13 sec vs the 15 secs on an SD.

I really want to know if this motor is a durable as I expect it to be.

It would be a bonus if anyone knew about manual tramission compatibility for this.

Default Looking at 95 e300 3.0L-non turbo--What do u think?

new to forum...and looking for new car for wife. Like diesel..have a 98 Jetta with 192k and get 48mpg. Now want a good car for wife..she currently has 99 Toyota Avalon xl with 217k gets 26mpg..few issues with suspension, otherwise good. I looking long term..think I could drive a 95 e300 over 500k and the Avalon has another 30k-50k..so time to sell?
3.0L is recommended but low power..no turbo. Should I look for a 87-92 MB with turbo...want mpg's yet she would like some power.

The 95 e300 i found has new bilstin shocks and new motor mounts..runs solid...has scratched paint, one rust spot near sunroof and 2 holes in front/back bumpers..has 285k daily driver..new brakes/rotors..no lights!
Price is asking $3995....how is that for a price in Chicagoland?
Their is another...95 e300 with 246k..haven't seen this one from dealer and no heated seats...the same price $3995
And a third at dealer..2 owners and records, haven't seen it but listed at $4700.

Which should i consider or should keep looking for the 2.5L turbo or the coveted 87 turbo.
Thanks for any input...

Default Thanks--one more question

test drove with my wife..who the car is for. Asked to check the AC and it blew cool but not cold...like any other car. He related that MB has a dehumidifyer so the compressor doesn't have to work as hard to make a good climate in the cabin...or something like that.
this worried me because of the problems i have read about the evaporator being a problem in this car and it could be expensive to fix...what are your thoughts. thanks for your help..

Default 93 300D 2.5 Turbo

I just bought a '93 300D with the 2.5L Turbo. I didn't see it on the avoid list, which makes me happy, but didn't see in on the buy list either. Any info you can give me?

Also, what is the difference between the '93 '300D' and the '300SD' (which is on the avoid list)?

I used to have an '86 190D (Michigan rust bucket) but the thing ran great! It was a non-turbo, but it was a manual. I haven't seen another one since. At least it found a good home!

Thanks for input.

Default Another thing

Along with the post above, one thing I forgot to mention about my '93 300D. The previous owner stated there is a bit of a valve lifter noise. I don't really hear anything, but that's probably because I just got it and don't know the difference. Can anyone give me some more info on what this is, and what I may have to do to correct it?

Thanks

Default 06 e320 cdi

My wife has 06 300e cdi 67,000 miles. Maint so far, besides scheduled oil change etc, is front brake pads. However maint is expensive. Am having all work done at dealer till extended runs out.

Mileage around town 25 - 27, road 36-38. One trip from Atl to DC got 41. I at first thought computer was wrong, Checked on one trip by manual calculation and got a few tenths better than computer showed.

A few trips have been above 40. Don't know why. Usually set cruise at 78 and run ac. Maybe humidity for the engine???

On top of millage, car has huge pickup and can easily get you a ticket.

From experience so far, I would put it on beat buy list.

Smile 320 cdi information

Thanks for the input-I'm looking for a 2006 320 cdi with low miles and service records here in Southern California and they are very hard to find!
I think it's the perfect car for our upcoming retirement "Road Trips".

Hey im looking for a mercedes diesel and been reading around the forum so far ive come up to a few models which i would be interested in.
300td 190d 240d and e300

Ive found 2 300td in norcal they are both about the same as in they look good but probably had a bunch of owners and the history is not very known from what i found out.
Here are the 2 cars
1987 Mercedes 300TD Turbo Diesel
and
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/3214023861.html

Do you think the price is fair from what it looks like and what sort of questions do i need to be asking?

I am currently in afghanland finishing my deployment and need to get a car when i get back to hawaii. Hawaii really doesnt have too many good cars and they prices are all overpriced so thats why ive been looking at cali.
If anyone can recommend if i should just look around or if anyone knows someone with a good car for sale. My budget is about 5k so about 4k for the car and 1k for shipping if from cali/west coast.
I have a friend in both places socal and norcal that could help me ship the car but only in norcal is someone who actually knows a lot about cars and is a pretty good mechanic.
