Default Diesel 1/4 tank failer??? Sputter!!

I posted this in S class forums too before I discovered the great new forum!

Ok Guys, I have a good one for ya because I am stumped! My S350 Turbo diesel is mint and drives like a dream. It has, and always had, one little problem. When the fuel tank reaches a quarter tank, almost on the money, it starts to get a little jumpy....I mean sputters like crazy! Even more, when it gets below a quarter tank, it will simply shut down. Its pretty obvious it has something to do with the fuel not getting to the engine. When we fill the tank, it's back to driving like a dream. I have tried to solve the problem myself to no avail. I have turned it in to Valley motors, basically the best around for servicing Mercedes, and they can't figure the problem out either. The best they did for me was replace a fuel tank filter inside(?) the tank and another filter somewhere else along the line. Well after about one day, it was back to sputtering like crazy at the quarter tank mark. So Basically I have NEVER EVER been able to drive my car to almost empty, only a hair under 1/4 tank. Unlike others, I have to start thiking about filling up when I am just below the halfway mark. This sucks because I can easily squeeze 150 miles out of that last 1/4 tank with no problem if the fuel would get to the engine like the other 3/4's of a tank. Any ideas???? Thanks a Million.

Did any dealership or mechanic check the calibration of the fuel gauge and float? Maybe you really are empty.

Oh I know for sure I am not empty. The dealership is the place that replaced the filters. Not to mention I am only about 300 or 350 miles or so when I hit the quarter tank mark so there is no way its empty because that would mean something like 10 miles to the gallon on a full tank.
