Default compare 85 300D to 92 300D

Could someone elaborate on how user friendly for a typical DIYer a 1992 300D is. I currently have as my DD a 1985 300d, and I ran across locally a 1992 300D 240K (100k less than my 85) reasonably priced and very clean. I am interested in knowing if they are similar in doing your typical maintenance and repairs as the 85 -123 and if there are any inherent problems I should lookout for.
Thanks in advance for any information you can add.

Thank you for the reply, what I did notice when I looked at it was some uneven tire wear on the left rear inside and the owner said there is no alignment adjustment only bushing replacement as told by his indy (it wasn't terrible but noticeable on tires with 50% tread left) so is that true and is that a diy project
with no out of the ordinary tools to complete.

Default Making the 92 300D more reliable

FI,

"Defeat the EGR (by plugging the vacuum lines on it and to it?), remove the airflow meter (unplugging the MAS?) and replace the computer controlled wastegate with a normal 12psi actuator (could you provide a recommendation on best replacement and where to get one?) and it will be just as reliable as your 85"

Thanks,

Deke

I had a 82 240 and upgraded to a 93 300D (almost identical to your 92) a while back. My thoughts:
The 93 is a much more sophisticated car. Nicer to drive, quieter, better gas mileage. It also has a lot more computer controls and there are more jobs I can't do on this car that I could on the 82. The 93 has been very reliable and a solid car. The 82 wasn't as much. However, although I do all the work myself, this has turned out to cost more to keep on the road than the 82. For example, it takes 8 pints of oil every oil change. That's twice as much as the 82. Gets expensive. Parts just seem to cost more. More electronics so more cost for parts.
I would definitely choose the 93 over the 82 however, I much prefer the retro look and feel of the interior of the 82 and the simplicity of the entire car (except for the vacuum system!!) and also, as mentioned above, the reduced maintenance costs.

Thank you Duresmith I did pass on the one I was looking at due to not trusting information that I was getting from the seller. I am still looking for a 124 diesel so your input is helpful. Anyone selling a 91-95 in decent shape let me know.
