My 1991 300D emitted a odor inside the car that smelled as if some electronic component was very hot. There was not any smoke that I could see however the smell made my eyes water. Now there is no Air Conditioning. I am wondering if this has been reported as a problem before.

 

Bad smells followed by the A/C going out could very well be your evaporator behind the dash. It should be nestled with your heater core which could also be on its way out.
