Any thoughts on a 1987 300td?
I'm looking to buy a reliable wagon for commuting and am considering the above. Are there any major concerns with these vehicles? It looks like any of them will have 200k+ miles - is it reasonable to expect a fair amount of life beyond this threshhold? I'm also looking at the 300td W123 series from 1981-85. Apart from aesthetic preference, would you recommend the W123 era or W124?
Thanks in advance.

Now if I'm not mistaken, wasn't the W123 and prior 85 diesel engine was five cylinders while the W124 and after was 6 cylinder diesels?
Both of them engines are basically bulletproof but the 6 cylinder is better performing in just about all ways as in refinement, noise, power, speed and stuff.
200,000 miles is nothing for either one of those engines if well kept. Them the engines I've been hearing about going 500,000+ miles and a few just recently hit the million mile mark.

No the 90-93 300D 2.5 was a 5-cly the Engine code was 602.962 while the 1987 300D and 300TD was a 6-cly with the 603.960 engine same as the 300SDL and is an EXCELLENT engine i highly recommend mine has 296k on it.
